| Abstract | When the world is connected, people all over the world expand their business across
national borders. Every nation has its own language as well as culture. People from
different cultures have their ways in communication. When those people are working
together in the same organization, they do not know each other; they are uncertain about
the meaning of spoken words; they might not understand the others behavior; they also do
not know the other cultural norms and values, what is high or low value and what value
will affect the other side’s opinion and action. Conducting business with people from
another culture will never be as easy as doing business with locals. Cultural diversity
creates conflict due mainly to miscommunication and uncertainty brought by a new
culture. When working in another country, it is important to have a good knowledge about
the culture you are working with to be able to build sustainable and good relationships. The
knowledge about different cultures can explain how to behave in a business situation and
why people from other countries act in a certain way. This knowledge can be crucial and
can be the determining factor if a cross cultural cooperation is going to fail or to be a
success.
The research study analyzes the cross-cultural differences in working styles, lifestyles and
perceptions between Vietnamese and Westerners which have been found in KPMG
Vietnam. Based on the analysis of cultural challenges which the members of the both two
sides faced, possible solutions which are vital and good help for problem solving are
recommended |
