| Abstract | in the year 2006 with the event of Intel Corp has invested in $605 million chipmaker plant
in hi-tech IT field. In the early year 2007, another great event of Viet Nam became the
WTO's 150th member on 11 January 2007 has lead to even more rapid changes in
Vietnam’s trade and economic regime. Favorable growth trends and changes in the Foreign
Direct Investment rules by the Vietnamese Government have created compelling
investment opportunities.
Venture Capital is relatively new in Vietnam, is still in the developing stage in term of the
understanding, experiences and legal structures. The effects of venture capital on
technology entrepreneurship development in Vietnam, an environment that is entirely
foreign to venture capital, have not been studied widely. Though the growth in the hightech
sector is very rapid and local entrepreneurs especially start-ups are start to purse
advance technology and cash hungry, the country’s venture capital industry is highly
underdeveloped.
This research study focuses on strategy development, identifies some opportunities,
strengths, weaknesses and threats of IDG Ventures Vietnam in Vietnam venture capital
industry. Some recommendations are proposed to help IDG ventures in Vietnam to solve
the existed problems. These includes build close government relations, be active educating
and developing the market, create networking associations and events, focusing core
sectors and leverage the IDG Platform, build strong and valuable portfolio companies,
build strong IDGVV’s investment teams and adopt appropriate exit strategies. |
