| Abstract | Siam Commercial Bank is a professional banking business. The project I am
involved in is one of many projects to process customer information to make it more
valuable and create more profit for the business. The project came about from the
concept, to implement a new data warehouse. Before, this SCB had an existing data
warehouse application. But, the problem was the old one is not efficient and has a lot
of dirty data. Finally the decision was made to bring in a new project to replace the
old one and make it more efficient and to gain more profit from a huge database of
customers.
Even though the project started with favorable impressions from both inside
and outside the organization unfortunately, problems began to occur. No one had
anticipated these problems. The problems were uncontrolled vendors and late arrival
of hardware and software delivery. These problems led to project delays and meant it
was running behind schedule and heading for failure. Eventually the CIO decided to
change the project manager and add more staff to the team.
This paper shows the main problems faced by the project. The Enterprise Data
Warehouse for SCB is not an ordinary project so that traditional styles of project
management will not succeed. This paper analyses information to use for solutions
and recommendations. I hope this information proves to be useful and provides
guidelines for any new project managers working on future projects. I would like to
make this request to every project manager - please think and care about people on
your team. |
