| Abstract | This study mainly focuses on reform and restructuring initiatives taken in the Bangladesh's
banking industry specifically state-owned financial institutions and to evaluate their impact on
the financial development, business development, governance, risk management and individual
performances of the banks under the regulatory oversight. Financial deepening,
competitiveness and profitability are the measuring factor of developed financial system.
Banks individual's performances are measured by "Capital Adequacy, Asset Quality,
Management Soundness, Institutional Capacity, Earning performance and Liquidity" of the
banks. The study reveals that the financial reform in state-owned financial has been developed
to some extent. Against the backdrop the present study is undertaken to examine the postreform situations and present in detail the position of the State owned banking sector. It is
expected that the findings of this study would be helpful to identify the practical problems
encountered in the structural adjustment process relevant to financial reform and point out
areas for corrective measures towards policy implications for making state ownd financial
sector competitive, profitable and productive. However, a mixed result is observed for
different state-owned banks in case of Bank's performance evaluation. |
