| Abstract | Technical specifications are a part of the contract documents that is generally referred
to in the whole life of projects. They are recognized as one of dispute causative detrimental
in term of additional project time and cost as well as decay of quality. Moreover, they could
also cause adverse decline of relationships between the participants. This study was
conducted to classify the use of technical specification types towards work procedures and
materials of architectural and structural works in government and private building
construction projects through the pre-design checklist form. Furthermore, the determination
of the occurrence frequency of specification dispute causes was conducted to disclose the
most frequence of specification disputes arising during the construction phase based on the
perceptions of government architect/engineer, private architect/engineer, and contractor
organizations through the questionnaire. The relative index and nonparametric statistics were
applied to analyze the data in this study. The findings identified that the clause describing the
detailed installation procedures of work is mostly specified in technical specifications of
building projects. The strict description of work procedures was perceived by the three
organizations that most frequence cause the dispute during the construction phase. Moreover,
the clause referring to the materials to the relevant standards was found mostly specify in the
technical specifications. The clause that refers to alien materials was also perceived by all
organizations surveyed as the clause that most frequently causes the disputes during the
construction phase. |
