| Abstract | Improvement in power loss, voltage drop of electric power distribution systems have
become a topic of increasing concern in Laos, because of rapid load growth, the wide
geographical area it cover and high loss level in the power systems. Since loss is one of the
basic parameters indicating the efficiency of the system, loss reduction is also necessary
for efficiency improvement of the power system.
The aim of this study is to analyze the power loss of the Vangvieng District distribution
system and find the best way of reducing high systemic losses. Using technique of
capacitor placements and increasing the capacity of distribution transformers in the
primary distribution system, losses have been reduced effectively. The result of this study
prove that not only loss reduction but also alternative improvements involving the power
factor and the voltage profile were achieved with these loss reduction techniques. Analysis
has been considered in three cases. Losses of Vangvieng District Distribution system were
evaluated in existed case to measure the actual technical losses of the system, capacitoring
case has been analyzed for loss reduction of the system and economic analysis case for
evaluation the cost of losses and present worth savings.
The economic evaluation of Vangvieng District distribution system has been studied for
economically feasibility of loss reduction techniques, economical analysis was only made
with one cost of energy. |
