| Abstract | Traditional Chinese medicine has shown great development potential in recent years.
Chinese government has identified modern Chinese medicine as one of the major
focuses in its economic development in the Tenth Five-Year Plan (2001-2005). But
the industry of TCM of China has lagged behind in the development of
evidence-based modern Chinese medicine as compared with Japan and South Korea.
At the same time, due to the China's access to WTO, the competition becomes more
escalated and fierce than ever before. In order to survive and win the battle, it is
necessary for domestic TCM manufacturers to learn the situation and environment
into which they are embedded and to develop their own core competence to compete
both in domestic market and abroad. In this aspect, competition analysis would
provide a brief glimpse.
This research study is an attempt to understand TCM industry's competition situation
in China and abroad. The author chose a representative TCM enterprise-TRT
Group-in Beijing and addresses major issues associated with the SWOT analysis. As
this topic is evolving in China, this research paper provides general guidelines for the
China domestic TCM manufacturers. |
