| Abstract | Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors not only in the world economy but
also in Vietnam's. Tourism can generate benefits for a country or a destination. However,
it can also create a lot of consequences for the environment, culture, society and so on. In
order to develop tourism, it is necessary for a country or a destination to have tourism
resources. They are the core components of tourism development. Without tourism
resources there is no need for other tourism services and development. And tourism
resource management is one of the most important factors which affect directly on the
effective exploitation of tourism resources as well as the ability of preservation, and
stimulating values of tourism resources.
In order to properly and efficiently exploit tourism resources for tourism development, the
role of the government in tourism resource management is very essential. Government has
supreme functions to control and balance between resource exploitation and resource
preservation.
In Vietnam, public sector is still a key player in any industries. However public
management of tourism resources in Vietnam still has many issues such as lack of
comprehensive and long-term visions. Therefore, the scope of the research is aiming at
providing more understanding on this issue through interviews with Vietnam National
Administration of Tourism, situation analysis, lessons from some developed tourism
countries, policies, etc. And from that give some policy implications and recommendations
for improving the Vietnamese government management capability to better managing
tourism resources. |
