| Abstract | In this research we will review the recent literature on Critical Success Factors (CSFs)
in project management and introduce a new framework developed by Khang and Moe
(2005) on CSFs in international development projects. We will then compare the CSFs
of this new model with those existing in the literature. A second step will be the
conduction of a meta-analysis of ten case study described in the research studies of
former master students at the school of management, AIT. The first aim of this metaanalysis
will be to provide interpretation of the CSFs introduced by Khang and Moe
(2005) model in the context of the studied projects. The second aim will be to study the
conceptual differences between Khang and Moe (2005) model and the CSFs included in
the studies.
This research shows that beyond being useful for practitioners, the new framework will
also be a valuable tool for those studying critical success factors in international
development projects. Indeed, people researchers tend to focus only on the
implementation stage, forgetting the conceptualisation, planning and closing. This
framework allows them to consider the project as a whole. The findings also indicate
that although some CSFs introduced are highly present in the different projects, others
are difficult to find and may need further enquiry. Some new CSFs are also suggested
such as the involvement of target beneficiaries in all stages, the integration of
sustainability, or the importance of the collaboration between stakeholders. Finally,
question is raised about the place of the CSFs applying for all stages in the framework. |
