| Abstract | A better understanding of factors affecting carbon e1111 ss1ons can be obtained through
decomposition analysis. This approach is a widespread tool in causal analysis of carbon emissions
and its intensities. It allows for identification and quantification of effects from known factors. This
research study is aimed to examine the different methodologies and approaches available
for decomposing aggregate indicators to study C02 emission in South-East Asian
Countries and to provide a tool to help in determining the most suitable Index
Decomposition Model for a given situation. The understanding from the above analysis
shows presence of residual in the IDM can provide a wrong idea of the effect of different
factor causing C02 emission in a region. It is not just provide a disto1ied figure but also can
be a source of misunderstanding of the effect of factors causing C02 emission. The
analysis clearly state that the Sun and lMDI I provide better picture of the C02 emission
which do not include any residual and both the method provide similar result of the real
scenario and both are closer to the reality of the C02 emission condition in South East
Asian Countries. |
