| Abstract | Recycled Asphalt Pavement, more commonly known as RAP, has been a popular
alternative for the materials used in the construction of roads. Road construction utilizes
millions of ton of natural resources over the years. By reusing the materials from the
original pavement money, time and space for material used is saved. When we recycle the
materials of the pavement the integrity of the materials may be lost due to construction
conditions. This paper intends to study the properties of Pavement recycling (RAP material
used again in base layer) and the effect of the larger sized aggregate which are obtained
from the different milling rate.
As different milling rates produce varying degree of fineness, the material results in
varying strength of Base layer pavements obtained from different milling rates. Also,
during actual construction process, the milled aggregates are mixed with stabilizing agents
and compacted on site; this study aims to determine the capability of Recycled RAP as
base layer to meet the strength and performance requirements of base course layer of
pavements and to analyse the variations of these properties in the different pavements
produced. This would help to encourage the reuse of RAP in pavement construction. |
