| Abstract | Often, equipment required for Hands-on Training is expensive or might be too big in
size. Experts that give you these training might not available when you want them. Handson
Training in Virtual Reality SDK for Unity3D using LEAP motion provides the tools
necessary to create a Virtual Reality Application that mimics an expert giving you Handson
Training. As Virtual Reality(VR) learning environments have been used in multitude
of life-critical scenarios such as Military and Medical Training (Berkley et al., 2004) to
simple scenarios like classroom learning (Pantelidis, 1993), this SDK could be used for
development of Virtual Electronics Lab, Medical Lab, or also fun assembling games. The
equipments and expert required for the training are objects in the virtual world which do not
cost anything and are always available. This SDK will help minimize the development time
of such VR apps. A full demo application to train users on how to assemble a computer
CPU is developed using this SDK. This paper gives an in-depth analysis on the software
development of this application. There are three main tasks that this SDK solves. First, the
need to connect objects to another object at a fixed position. Second, the sequence design in
which they will be connected. Third, the user interface which allows the user to flawlessly
interact with the system. During the development, it was found that LEAP motion controller
does not track the hands well when attached to the Oculus Rift in HMD mode. So, the
desktop version has been given more emphasis after preliminary experiments. |
