| Abstract | A core task of location area management is to maintain location of user while
retaining the system operation as low as possible. The system process consists of location
area and database consideration. The former part manages network in such a way that the
user-network interaction is minimized, while the latter part maintains user data and guides
the system how these data can be transferred efficiently.
In recent publications about individual location area, the principal job is to minimize
the system interaction of a user to be as low as possible. Database study emphasizes on the
performance in transferring user data from one place to another. The study on how to
combine these two aspects has not been widely dealt with.
The existing Distributed Database cannot support the Individual Location Area
approach. In this study, Modified Distributed Database protocol using the existing distributed
database structure is proposed to accommodate the individual location area concept. The
performance evaluation of location area, database, and overall system is achieved, by using
cost function. Fixed location area method is selected as a comparison with the proposed
individual location area. In fixed location area, only good choice of location area assignment
can minimize the total cost function. When the users change their behavior, the previous
assignment can not be considered optimal any more. For individual location area approach,
regardless of user behavior pattern, the larger the location area, the better the performance of
individual location area approach. |
