| Abstract | With the widening use of computers in every aspects of our life, computers and computer
network management become an impmtant issue. Most of the research done in this field tacks
distributed computer system and computer network management as independent problems.
This tactic provides us with highly effective solutions for each particular issue. These
solutions are less effective for large and complex systems and become less and less effective
in a fast changing environment.
Intelligent software agent system is a promising solution for managing a large, complex
and changing system with its high flexibility and adaptability. Together with hierarchy
management structure and dynamic function allocation, software agent system could provide
an attractive model for solving all problems of managing a large, complex and fast changing
computer network in any organization.
This model is illustrated by a simple prototype, which provides some primitive
management functions for a large PC network. In spite of its simplicity, the prototype is a
good proof for usefulness and effectiveness of the distributed software agent model in
computer network management. |
