| Abstract | The estimation of BER for cellular mobile systems becomes increasingly important
for the designers to determine acceptable modulation methods, coding techniques, and
receiver implementations in the operating environments. Computer simulation is a viable tool
in performance evaluation of cellular mobile communication systems. The effect of the
Doppler shift due to the movement of mobile stations is an important fact in simulation of
mobile radio channels.
In modeling of fading channel, Doppler shift due to the motion of mobile station is
usually introduced by Doppler filter. The simulation results are reliable but in simulation of
mobile radio channels, faster reliable simulation techniques are much desirable. Another
model, the first order Markov model can provide a mathematically tractable model for time
varying channels. In this research study, we compare the performances of Doppler filter and
Markov model in simulation of Doppler shift for the BER estimation of IS-54 TDMA
cellular mobile system.
The simulation results show that Markov model with symbol period delay does not
give reliable results in BER estimation of the cellular mobile system. But Markov model with
delay approximately (1/lOfm) gives approximately the same results with Doppler-filter model
in BER estimation oflS-54 system. |
