| Abstract | Cellular Automata are discrete physical like systems that model evolution and the parallel
reactions in nature. Such systems form a bridge between physical, biological and
computational models. This thesis models two-dimensional non-uniform cellular
automata represented using a square lattice where every automaton follows its own set of
rules. The rules have been modeled using the moving average. The Moore neighborhood
has been considered for modeling this system.
Predicting the motion of dynamic processes has been a major task today and is required
in a variety of situations. Forest fire is one such situation. The fire spreads in nature
through diffusion mechanism. The thesis simulates the continuous motion of fire in the
forest cellular space. The system developed allows user to randomly seed and grow
forests, it simulates growth and allows user to stop the growth at any random point to
seed fire. The system then models the spread of fire in the forest cellular space. The
system has been successfully developed and implemented using Java on a PC
environment. The system works properly and predicts the motion of fire given an initial
configuration of fire. |
