| Abstract | This report presents power transmission network planning studies in Laos. The study
considers present system 1997-98 condition and scenario of 2000, 2005, and 2010 year. This
involves power export to neighboring countries, namely EGAT(Electricity Generating
Authority of Thailand) and EVN (Electricity of Vietnam). Detailed power flow analysis have
been carried out to assess the line loading voltage profile for different load/generation
conditions. The requirement of reactive power compensation (shunt reactors ) to contain the
over-voltages in Extra-High-Voltage (EHV) network under light load conditions, the effect of
transformer taps has also been studied.
As far as possible, the data has been validated for network, load and generation and
suitable data is assumed, wherever, necessary. Results of the studies are summarized and
salient points on the network requirement are presented.
Finally, the general recommendation to feasible induction in energy in generation and
transmission system for consumption within the Northern, Central and Southern supply
network of Lao PDR by the development of potential hydropower projects. |
