| Abstract | In a multipath environment, spread spectrum system allows one to make use of the
multiple paths so that the energy in each path can be combined to provide a perf01mance gain
over a standard one path receiver. The rake receiver is a spread spectrum receiver that can
demodulate multiple paths.
A rake receiver can be used to detect the signal from the multipath fading channel.
The ideal tap weights are based on channel coefficients which are assumed known when
deriving rake receiver, but in practice a channel estimator is used to estimate the channel
coefficients. Rake receiver requires reliable delay, amplitude, and phase estimations of the
transmission paths. There are many different algorithms for delay, amplitude, and phase
estimation. Each algorithm effects the BER performance of rake receiver differently.
Channel estimation algorithms cause parameter estimation enors and result imperfect
performance of rake receiver. This thesis work concentrates on the performance of rake
receiver against various parameter estimation errors. These parameters are delay, amplitude,
and phase. The BER performance of rake receiver is investigated over multipath Rayleigh
fading radio channel with BPSK modulation scheme.
The simulation results show that the parameter which has the most effect on BER
performance is delay followed by phase and amplitude. The results show the allowable
estimation error of channel parameters using at rake receiver for acceptable BER values. |
