| Abstract | Nowadays Ho Chi Minh City is the biggest city of the southern region in specific and
of the whole country in general. However, the planning process up to now has not applied any
logic methodology especially the application of techniques for this target is not effectively. To
tackle this problem, a geographical information system (GIS) technology helps to organize
information about problems and allows human to try to understand their spatial relationships.
Sensitive and intelligent decision making stem from such an understanding.
In this research, the application of GIS contributed on the identification of the new
residential area for expanding the inner city boundary. As a result, the suitable levels classify
the residential areas. Most of the total area of Thu Due district is suitable for residential
development and Phu Huu and An Khanh are the best villages. In Binh Chanh district, only
Vinh Loe A is the best village for settlement because of the suitable physical environmental
factors. Hoc Mon and Nha be have the proportion of suitable class is quite low. Therefore they
are not prior areas for development.
In addition, the research also pay attention to build up the data base of urban and
regional planning. This is the basis of the spatial analysis on the purpose of land use planning
And to achieve this purpose in brief , the planners and decision makers need to apply GIS in
analysis in order to provide a decision support system contributing for the final result
completely. |
