| Abstract | A method to evaluate reliability of water supply system under contingencies is
developed in this study. Mathematical models are built by taking the following aspects
into considerations: (1) equity among consumers in case that system supply capacity is
lower than demand; (2) pressure dependent demand supply, namely the consumers cannot
get full water supply if pressure is lower than desired pressure; (3) redistribution of the
network flow; (4) co-operation of two or more sources; (5) implementations of optimal .
operation. Both models with/without equity are formulated in order to compare the
difference between two cases. A two-stage programming model is use to maximize
system reliability while keeping equity among consumers. The first objective function is
to maximize the minimum nodal demand supply rate; the second one is to maximize the
total supplied water, namely to maximize the system reliability, by keep all nodal demand
supply rates above optimal solution obtained in the first stage. A numerical example
shows that reliability analysis considering equity provides a significantly satisfactory
consequence especially when the degree of seriousness of failure increases. |
