| Abstract | System dynamics is a heuristic modeling tool for studying real world problems and
analyzing their behavior under different real and simulated conditions. Furthermore, behavioral
patterns are generated identifying past performance and inferred future possibilities. On the
basis of this analysis experimentation is done through simulated policies to recommend
strategies for problem rectification.
Pakistan Railways is a state owned enterprise planning, monitoring and controlling the
railway network of Pakistan. Currently, Pakistan Railways is under large debt with poor
service delivery. This has instigating a problematic situation further burden due to a lack of
financial investment in its operations.
This study uses system dynamics as a modeling tool to simulated the problematic
situation of Pakistan Railways and through model experimentation and analysis recommends
different operational policies to improve the problematic situation of Pakistan Railways.
Conclusion derived from the model indicates that appropriate operational policies for Pakistan
Railways to improve its future operations would constitute construction of double line with
increased provision for maintenance capacities of rolling stock as well as lines. |
