| Abstract | Aquaponics is an integrating farming system which combines aquaculture and
hydroponics. Media bed aquaponics system can be run with or without a mechanical
filter. Water quality parameters between inlet and outlet of media bed aquaponics system
with and without a mechanical flter were not expressed as significantly different (p>
0.05). Water quality parameters of inlets of media bed aquaponics system with and
without a mechanical filter were not expressed as significantly different. (p> 0.05). Plant
growth parameters height, weight, Phosphorous and Nitrogen contenet were examined.
Height, weight and Nitrogen content of the plants were increased but Phosphorous
content was reduced. Mechanical filtration does not affect the water quality parameters of
a media bed Aquaponic system. Nitrogen and Phosphorus content of plants in the
nonfiltered section was higher. |
