| Abstract | The principles and techniques of facility layout can be applied in manufacturing and
non-manufacturing areas. In this study, it is applied to a ship dismantling company.
To improve the layout, the necessary quantities of equipment and workstations are
first decided on, based on the company's goals and constraints. Due to the presence of multiand conflicting objectives, goal programming is used to solve this problem aspect. The model
was solved using the Sequential Linear Programming algorithm through the STORM
software.
The results obtained in the application of goal programming are then utilized as input
in the resource allocation and layout design phase. Several alternatives are then generated and
considered in this study. In order to determine where the workstations would be situated and
which work areas these would serve, the location-allocation model is applied to the
alternatives that have been generated. A computer program written in Turbo Pascal is used to
ease up computations. The assignment model is then applied to determine the optimal
assignment of workstations to work areas in order to minimize costs.
The layout is then determined. The workstations are located with their work area
allocations given. The areas of coverage of the workstations are also given. |
