| Abstract | Climate change is expected to affect socio-economic sectors of Myanmar such as water
resources, forest, agriculture, biodiversity and public health. So, more local scale studies are
required to understand variations in climate. This study aims to project future temperature
and precipitation of the MyitNge River basin in Myanmar based on two regional circulation
models (RCMs). The RCM-driven data for the base period was corrected for biases using
linear scaling and quantile mapping methods. Two scenarios, namely, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5
were considered. Mid-century or the 2050s was considered as the future period of interest.
Results showed quantile mapping method is better suited to downscale future climate in the
study area. Projected results showed that precipitation in the mid-century is expected to be
high in September and October. In the case of temperature, both maximum and minimum, it
is projected to increase in the mid-century under both the scenarios. The highest increase intemperature is about 4.5ŁC. |
