| Abstract | Context-based image compression, using the property of medical images that are highly
related to neighboring gray-scale pixels can be used to predict the next pixel. Once the pixels
from the previous rows and the previous columns are known to the encoder, the current pixel
can be predicted and the prediction errors which are only small numbers will be transmitted so
that the decoder at the remote site can rebuild the original images accurately. The compression
is accomplished because the coding required small errors need less number of bits, than needed
for the regular pixels. In this study, five test images were scanned, converted to BMP file
format, using JPEG's eight modes of predictors for modeling, and compressed using LZW,
Huffman, and arithmetic compression algorithms. 'The results are analyzed and discussed. |
