| Abstract | In this thesis, the multidimensional traffic model in a cellular network is studied. The
concept of multidimensional traffic model is needed to model the traffic for multiclass of
subscribers which are classified by holding time, arrival rate and bandwidth. That model is
applied from Narrowband ISDN traffic model in fixed network (circuit swithching mode
approach) including traffic due to mobility of subscriber. The system performance is evaluated
by discrete event by event simulation model. In this simulation network, hierarchical cell
structure (microcell/macrocell) is used to increase the capacity and improve the system
performance. In addition, various strategies are applied to improve the system performance as
the rearrangement strategy, service protection and handover protection. The rearrangement
strategy is used for increasing the utilization of channels by exploiting the intelligence
inherence in the system. The service protection is used to guarantee the certain grade of service
(GOS) for specific subscribers. The handover protection is used to ensure the handover
attempt are not interrupted to forced into termination. The results show the performance
measure per cell of different services in term of new call blocking probability, handover failure
probability, total carried traffic, forced termination probability |
