| Abstract | A study on the energy consumption and the energy conservation potential in a sausage
and packing meat plant, named VISSAN- Import Export Corporation, in Vietnam was
conducted.
An Energy Audit has been done for steam department in the plant. Energy analysis of
the existing boilers was used to identified the locations, types, and magnitudes of the losses.
The major loss was the energy releasing with flue gas, representing about 16% of total energy
input to the boiler. In addition, it was found that a significant amount of flash steam was
vented without any heat recovery.
The energy conservation measures as excess air control, increasing the boiler load,
heat recovery from flue gas and flash steam, insulation improvement were investigated and
studied.
An air preheater and a flash vessel were designed for the plant and the results of
economic analysis gave attractive annual benefits and very short payback periods.
After all, if all aforementioned energy conservation measures are realized, a significant
amount of money is saved for the plant due to reducing the energy consumption, result in less
production cost and more profit per product unit. |
