| Abstract | The objective of this research is to set up a model for identifying the potential conflicts
among interested parties in financing a project and factors affecting the implementation of
funding structure of a project.
Based on literature review and personal communications with parties related to the two
selected projects, analysis has been carried out to find out the underlying factors leading to the
conflicts and key factors influencing the formulation of funding structure for a project. Based on
these analysis, a model for identifying the potential conflicts in project financing with an Asian
perspective and indicating factors affecting the implementation of funding structure has been set
up.
The optimum funding structure of a project should meet the objectives of the sponsors,
reflect the market risk-return features, can be implemented and efficiently allocate risks among all
the parties involved. Therefore, the optimum funding structure should be acceptable to all the
parties involved, and should be able, to a great extent, prevent potential conflicts among all the
parties from occurring.
Recommendations for different parties in project financing are given in this paper. Some
fields deserving further academic and practical approaches are also identified.
This research is based on only two cases study located in Singapore and Manila, literature
review and interviews, therefore, the result cannot be generalized to any project without careful
comparison. However, even though every project is unique, there still exist a lot of common
features, the conclusions of this research can be used as a guideline for different projects provided
the underlying conditions are compared with the projects used in this research on a case by case
basis. |
