| Abstract | Sports Goods' industry in Pakistan is one of the few oldest exporting industries of the
Indo-Pak Sub-continent. The industry is mostly concentrated in Sialkot, a city of international
repute, located in the sub-mountainous region of the Himalayan range within the Punjab province
of Pakistan. For its geographical location, the region enjoys an ideal climate for the manufacture
of wooden and leather-based sports goods.
The history of this industry dates back to the later half of the Nineteenth Century during
which the inherent talented craftsmanship and ingenuity of the local craftsmen was discovered by
the British personnel stationed at Sialkot.
Pakistan is now able to attract the world's attention to her sophisticated Sports Goods'
products, which are combination of conventual quality and local technology.
The present dimension of celebrity and grandeur of the Pakistan Sports Goods Industry
possesses an epoch of almost twelve decades in which it has gradually developed. At present
more than (300) three hundred units mostly situated in Sialkot.
These all installations have not only fulfilled the domestic demands but are also catering
the needs of foreign markets in spite of severe competition from mechanized industry of several
advanced countries. Pakistan's expertise in this field has been managing the export of quality
Sports Goods to over hundreds of countries of the world and is earning foreign exchange in
millions every year and is playing a cardinal role in the National well-being.
This research study proposes the comprehensive assessment of the present "Export
Competitiveness of Pakistan's Sports goods' Industry." It indicates all strengths and weaknesses
as well as few suggestions to overcome the weaknesses and further intensify the strengths. |
