| Abstract | The Export Production Village (EPV) programme is based on
the participatory rural development approach. This project has
been formulated in a manner that encourages participation of
villagers in export production. The EPV's main objective is to
organize the villagers' production for export market and give the
benefits directly to the villagers improving their standard of
living. Hence, this study is focused on the nature and extent of
women's participation in rural development under the EPV
programme. In this task, comparison of two groups; EPV
shareholder producers as experimental group and non-shareholders
as control group has been resorted to.
The findings of the study reveal the fact that the village
women participated actively in the project and benefit sharing.
Likewise, it is found that there is a significant difference
between the two groups in terms of socio-economic development as
a result of the production activities.
Nevertheless, it is found that there
weaknesses in the project such as raw material
levels and administrative efficiency. Finally
recommendation for the improvement of the EPV
made. |
