| Abstract | Boraphet swamp is lowland depression, concave on floodplain area like a big
pan in the central reg ion of Thailand; there is high accumulated rates of
sediments, both organic and inorganic matter, from upper part of Boraphet basin
which may come with Nan River and link canals surrounding the basin. Therefore,
the Improper land utilization on higher part of the swamp by the farmers might
be causing soil erosion, soil degradation, and wat er pollution in the swamp.
Adverse Impacts from f arm activities low land paddy, upland crop cultivation, and
fish culture and aquatic weed in the swamp itself might cause severe problems
in the future if inappropriate land utilization management continues.
Several sets of data such as hydrologic, land use, soi l and soil erosion, and
Topographic map were utilized. Sedimentation has been analyzed with the
suspended sediment load equation for estimating sediment accumulation in the
swamp. Fi eld survey of farming system, land utilization type and socio-economic
condition in surrounding Boraphet swamp were analyzed.
The results of this research suggest s that farmers can get maximum crop
yield in limited land area by increasing Input (farm manure) and suitable land
management, especially soil erosion protection (growing vegetative barrier,
construct c heck dam) and appropriate amount of pesticide and fertilizer use.
However, environmental conditions change that is cl I mate, unstable market, lack
of budget, land holding, and labor force also create problems for the farmers.
Moreover, less cooperation between Involved agencies is also a problems of
agriculture planning. |
