| Abstract | Multi Storey Flats is being promoted by the government as a viable solution to low income
housing in Jakarta. For reason of social and cultural background, the project is less favored by
the people as compared to other housing projects. There have been several attempts by the
Indonesian Government to enforce measures to ameliorate the undesirable living conditions in
Multi Storey Flats.
The aim of this study is to explore the design improvement for the Multi Storey Flats to
make it acceptable for the needs and various requirements of low middle income people. This
includes economic conditions, social behavior and cultural background of the community.
Basically, "kampung" as the traditional settlement pattern of Indonesia influences the assessment
of neighborhood patterns in Multi Storey Flats, in leading to several improvements to be made
on the existing Kemayoran design. The improved design proposal were tested with the target
population, using a 1: 50 scale model. Most of the respondents agreed with the proposed
improvement which would be possible to build within the original construction budget. |
