| Abstract | A new model to evaluate the performance of a large-scale wastewater treatment plant
was developed by simplifying many reactions and units. This model consists of two parts:
wastewater treatment plants (WTP) and sludge treatment process (STP). The model can
describe the behavior of nitrogenous and carbonaceous materials in activated sludge process
(ASP) and sludge treatment process. The applicability was verified by comparison with many
activated sludge processes.
Base on the model, a software was developed on an IBM compatible PC. This software
consists of four modules: file management, input, calculation, and evaluation. For flexibility
and applicability, the software can handle the plants which have two parallel activated
sludge systems and two parallel sludge treatment processes. With a good man-machine
interface and some useful examples, users can practice and familiarize themselves with
single-sludge activated-sludge processes easily. This software also includes a simple cost
function to evaluate the construction and operation/maintenance cost of wastewater
treatment plants. Therefore the software can be used in design and operation/maintenance
of wastewater treatment plants for single sludge ASP performing carbon oxidation,
nitrification and denitrification. |
