| Abstract | A stripper harvester f or rice developed a t t h e
International Rice Research Institute ( IRRI ) bas e d o n a
mechanism developed by Silsoe Research Institute was field
tested to evaluate its field performance a nd to assess its
prospect of adoption by the Filipino farmers.
The machine was found to perform well in dry conditions .
Average field capacity of t e machine was 0 . 12 ha/h with forward
speed varying from 3. 5 to 5 km/h depending on crop and soil
conditions. Shattering loss decreased with increase in forward
speed while straw intake decreased at high rotor a nd low nose
set ting s. Total machine loss was less than 2% of yield with
negligible unstripped loss.
In good standing crop, the s tripper handled less than one
third of the straw as compared to manual arid mechanical reaping.
Th e machine was able to thresh up to 97% of the grain s in the
s tripped material. The labor requirement of u sing the stripper
was 34 man- h/ha as compared to about 120 ma n- h/ha for manual
reaping. Th e machine is still in the prototype stage and further
development efforts a nd modifications are needed to improve its
overa11 performance. Furthermore, the stripper sti11 needs t o b e
tested during the wet harvest season to evaluate its performance
in wet crop and soil conditions. |
