| Abstract | The study on the diffusion and adoption of agricultural innovations
among the hill tribe population provides essential elements for highland
development planning . Four research documents in Thai language are
reviewed so as to present first- hand findings and explanations. Human
beings are recognized as t he most important factor, especially their
innovativeness. The implementation of development programs must be based
on information about the target area which includes characteristics of the
target population, land tenure and cropping pattern. Th e numbers of
practicing members are compared to the benchmark set in project objectives
to evaluate the performance. For the Hmong, extension personnel and
neighbors are the significant sources of information, and the number of
household members and capital investment are significant in the adoption of
t he innovations . Price of opium, transportation costs, limited loans
granted to hilltribe farmers, monopoly of middlemen and poor quality of
farm products are the main constratints in the implementation of programs. |
