| Abstract | Due to the policy reform in agricultural economic management, the increasing·
of input investments into production, and the application of new advanced
technologies as modern rice varieties, the rice output of Vietnam has been
increasing. This study evaluates some major rice varieties popularly grown in the
Red River Delta which is one of the biggest rice cultivated area of the country.
The selected rice varieties of IR8, V18, V15, CR203 in the four different
agro-ecological zones are evaluated based on the experimental data collected from
research station. The fluctuation of yield in the period of 1985-1989 were analysed
to determine the stability of performance in each location. The yield across the four
regions were analysed to determine the adaptability of each variety. From the
market prices of paddy and inputs last year (1990), optimum input levels of
fertilizer use are estimated. The results IR8 is better cultivated in the irrigated
area of Hanoi, Haihung, Thaibinh in the dry season if the price of nitrogen
fertilizer increase CR203 would be better. In the lowland, degraded areas CR203 is
preferable in both seasons and for saline area in the wet season while V15 is more
stable and economical in the dry season of saline area only.
It is suggested that the rice scientists in Vietnam should pay more attention
on new research objective in order to cope with the trend on price of paddy and
nitrogen fertilizer in the near future. |
