| Abstract | In this study, a procedure for water allocation and distribution for making daily and weekly
operation decisions in irrigation systems was developed.
The procedure uses the water balance approach for predicting weekly water requirements
for paddy and sugarcane. The program PADDY computes weekly water requirement for paddy.
The program SUGAR predicts the soil moisture profile of sugarcane and computes weekly
water requirement, irrigation interval and the date of irrigation. Water uptake by sugarcane has
been computed by using Feddes sink function. Expected rainfall was computed by using Leaky
law. The main program WADPRO used the results of all above sub programs and daily water
demand and irrigation time at farm level and tertiary canal level are computed.
The developed model was tested in Tha Maka sub project of Mae-klong irrigation project
in Thailand and was compared with an existing model WASAM.
Amount of irrigation predicted by the model WAD PRO is considerably lower compared
to farmer water application. Continuous irrigation practised in the project has resulted in low
flow rates in the tertiary canal. Therefore, rotational system has been proposed at increased
flow rate in order to reduce the time of irrigation in the tertiary canal. |
