| Abstract | A study is done on the improvement of irrigation management
by main system operation. The need for improving the management
arises because it has become a matter of increasing concern in
recent years that the performance of irrigation schemes has
fallen short of expectations. The problems encountered in an
irrigation system includes inequitable water distribution to the
head and tail enders, insufficient flexibility for water delivery, seepage and operational losses, poor operation and
maintenance procedures and many irrigation systems are
incomplete. Other problems are insufficient communication system
and weaknesses in the organization and managemen t of the scheme.
To solve the prevailing problems the interactive compo nents
of the hardware and software of the main system have to be
studied carefully. One of the most urgent and immediate task in
the operation of irrigation projects is to modernize the old
schemes. The physical elements (hardware) to be installed should
be selected under a criteria which reflects the consequences on
the software i.e. operation, allocation, distribution
maintenance. |
