| Abstract | This study dealt with the preliminary aspects of a technical
and economic analysis of direct-use non-electrical utilization of
geothermal energy as applied for process heating/cooling in an
industry in the Philippines. The engineering criteria and design
methodologies, as well as the basis for an economic evaluation
were laid down for the four identified components or systems that
comprise a geothermal process heating/cooling project.
The technical analysis involved the matching up of the heat
potential of the geothermal resource area identified as the
Maibarara field (supply side) with the process energy
requirements of a typical industry (demand side) using steam for
its production operations.
The economic analysis was done by comparing the annual
operating and maintenance costs of the geothermal system against
that of a plant with the same capacity and energy requirements as
the former.
The study showed that the energy requirements of the
industrial plant can be amply provided for by the Maibarara
geothermal field and a savings in operation and maintenance costs
can be derived by using geothermal energy for process heating. |
