| Abstract | A large number of materials are necessary for a consumer product manufacturing plant and
therefore the replenishment cost involved is a great amount. Replenishment is usually placed with
a few suppliers where coordination of replenishment of orders for selected group of items can lead
to significant savings in the cost of replenishment. This study deals with the implementation of
coordinated replenishment inventory control model to raw materials of a consumer product
manufacturing company. The study uses a coordinated replenishment with periodic review for
selecting the order quantity, order interval in combination with safety stock consideration.
Deterministic demand is assumed. Raw material groups are classified according to ABC analysis
and supplier. Different policies are applied to each material group. Cost comparisons of the
coordinated model with the independent and the current system indicate that significant savings are
I
possible through coordination. The models are applied to 165 material items and 24 suppliers. Results
obtained have been analyzed and recommendations are made. Fourteen-day review interval for all
material groups in A and B Classes provides the lowest increasing total relevant costs compared
with the optimal total relevant costs. |
