| Abstract | An important form of learning is to classify the given
objects. This type of activity has been a focus of attention
in the field of cluster analysis and numerical taxonomy for
quite some time . Quite recently this area has started to
receive much attention in artificial intelligence by the name
of conceptual clustering as a subfield of inductive learning .
Existing AI methods of machine learning, specially inductive learning are biased towards one form of learning or the
other. The present system is designed keeping in mind the
current interest in inductive learning. With the current
interest in expert systems and their commercialization, there
is a growing need for systems which can deal with different
and changing situations. This is an incremental non-supervised
conceptual clustering system which can also learn in supervised domains. Application of machine induction techniques in
complex domains promises to push the computational limits of
non-incremental methods . This system is an effort in that
direction. It is an integrated approach towards inductive
learning which can learn with or without teacher. The techniques used in this system are carefully chosen by taking into
consideration past research in this field . And it is shown
the conceptual clustering techniques can be applied in supervised learning environments. The results obtained are comparable to the methods in both the fields. |
