| Abstract | Energy Audit was carried out in the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel, a International hotel with the 780 guest rooms in the Bangkok, Thai l and . The purpose
of it was to study the energy consumption rate of electricity, Fuel oil and LPG,
performances of the Air conditioning system and steam generating system.
In 1988, the total energy consumption was 156 .50 million MJ and costed 42 . 24
million Bahts. It comprised of 54% electricity, 45% fuel oil, 1% LPG: accounting
for 85%, 13% and 1% of the energy Bill respectively.
Electricity consumption has increased from 12780, 000 kWh i n 1986 to 15846, 000
kWh in 1988 and corresponding cost from 15830100 Bahts in 1986 .
Cooling load for Ball Room No.1 (Largest room of the three Ball rooms ) was
calculated i.e. 406 . 58 KW (115.5 tons) with present room envelope conditions and
by applying energy conservation opportunities this calculated cooling load was
reduced to 390 kW (117. 87 kW) , results 12 .58 kW (4.63 tons) savings .
Energy analysis was carried out to determine performance of the four chiller~
and of the two steam generators.
Chiller No.3 has higher C.O .P i.e. 4. 78 while designed C.O.P for each chiller
is 4. 95 . Different pairs of the four chillers were analyzed in order to operate
efficiently with minimum energy consumption . Chiller No . 4 consume more and chiller
No .3 consume minimum energy .
In Boilers No. 1 & 2 , Heat loss with flue gases, heat loss from free
hydrogen in fuel , heat loss due t o moisture in fuel , heat loss from moisture i n
combustion air, heat loss in blow down, heat loss due to radiation and conduction
8.83 %,5. 07 %, 0.16 %, 0.42 %, 15 .06 %, 0.45 % and for boiler No.2, these are
8.07 %, 5. 03 %, 0.16 %, 0.38 %, 13.23 %, 0.39 %, 9.11% respectively . Excess air
65 .45 % and 61 . 0 %. Using energy conservation opportunities (i) Savings due to
Excess air about 139920 Bahts/yr , 153871 Bahts/yr respectively. (ii) Waste heat
recovery from flue gas by using heat exchanger 528586 bahts/yr, pay back period
0.246 yr, benefit / cost ratio 4~.40.
Monetary savings due t o reduction in peak demand from 2460 kW to 2409 kW
(in Jan 1989) in 131829 Bahts/yr and from 2460 kW to 2250 kW (Target Value) is
544 320 Bahts/yr. Overall increase in power factor from 0. 7317 to 0.9 is 135078
Bahts/yr . savings due to stoppage of compressor leakage is 5309 b/yr and energy
4316.4 kWh / yr. |
