| Abstract | It is now generally accepted that some degree of benefits accrues to the
customer and to the electrical utility if the energy required for building
cooling can be shifted to off-peak periods. The principal methods for cooling
thermal energy storage (TES ) are chilled water and ice storage. The benefit to
the utility is primarily one of shifting the load, which will increase energy
sales during off-peak periods, and may reduce peak generating capacity and
distribution requirements. Benefits to the customer include reduction of
required cooling equipment size and lower utility charges.
This study investigates mainly the potential of saving electricity cost
in chilled water storage application . The study includes chilled water storage
model testing and computer simulation of chiller coupled with chilled water
storage. The methods of testing storage tank performance are taken into i)
without anti-blending device and ii) with membrane anti-blending device. The
storage without membrane anti-blending device has lower thermal performance than
storage with membrane anti-blending device .
The economic evaluation of chilled water storage was taken by the criteria
Pay Back Periods, Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return. It was found
t hat t he more the demand charges and the lower the energy charges, t he higher
is the economic benefits of cool storage. |
