| Abstract | To overcome high human stress and drudgery in
trans planting operation an AIT- direct paddy seeder was
designed and developed to match a two wheel tractor available
with rice growing farmers in Asia .
The seeder has a working width of 2 m and e ight number
of rows. It has a foot ope rated clutch to di sengage the
metering mechanism during turning at headland, a cushioned
seat and a canopy to protect the operator from direct sun1 ight. It has a field capacity of about 0.5 ha/hour at average
forward velocity 0.81 m/sec and field efficiency 78 percent. The seed rate per hectare is about 15 to 20 kg. Total power
r equirement is about 0.38 kW . Damage due to metering mechanism
is nil for soaked seeds a nd about 3 perc e nt for pre- germinated seeds. Av e rage number of see d s per hill is
approximately 4.
Total price of seeder is about Baht 9,000 . Total cost of
planting paddy with the see de r i s Baht 214 per hectare
including the cost of seeds. It has a break-even point in
relation to cost of broadcasting at 3.85 ha/year. |
