| Abstract | The locally made tractor rear mounted whole crop harvester
was field tested to evaluate its field performance on wheat crop
a nd to t he assess technical and economic feasibility under local
agro- climatic conditions in Pakistan. It was also tested in the
laboratory for power consumption under n o load and power
consumption as a stationary thresher.
The no load power requirement of whole crop harvester at a
designed speed of 54 0 rpm was 5.4 kW. Th e average power
requirement of the harvester as a stationary thresher at a feed
rate of 51 kg /minute was 9.64 KW. The average field capacity of
harvester with and without 'bhoosa ' collection was 0.14 and 0.29
h a /h respective l y. The average cleaning efficiency of 93.5
percent was lower than Pakistan standard requirement of 96% for
thresher. Total cost for harvesting using whole crop harvester
with ' bhoosa ' collection was Rs 1982 /ha as compared to Rs 1233/h a
for reaper harvesting plus mechanical threshing and Rs 1 345 /ha
for manual harvesting plus mechanical threshing . The labour
requirement using who l e crop harvester with 'bhoosa ' collection
was 36 man-h/ha as compared to 75 man- h/ha for reaper harvesting
plus mechanical threshing and 147 ma n - h/ha for manual harvesting
plus mechanical threshing. Further development efforts and
modifications are needed to improve the machine reliability and
performance. In view of its unfavorable economics, the machine
has chances of adoption only in labour scarce regions. |
