| Abstract | The effect on the performance of introducing Global Title Translation (GTT) into the
Signalling System Number 7 (SS?) network is studied. Two models for the Signalling Connection
Control Part (SCCP) SS7 protocol layer incorporating GTT are developed . The two models
reflect two different possible GTI implementations within the SCCP protocol layer. The models
are based on a generic approach to modelling SS7 protocol layers. Mathematical analysis has
been done using general M/Gl/ 1 priority queuing models with feedback. Selected equations from
the mathematical analysis are verified against simulation.
Several quantitative conclusions relating to the performance of SS? networks are drawn
from the results. Results show that the location of the GTI function within the SS7 network
effects the performance of the network significantly. The effect of introducing GTI also causes
a significant degradation in the performance of the Message Transfer Part (MTP). These results
and others are useful for serving as general considerations for SS? network design and planning.
Moreover, the work done can be extended to higher layer SS7 protocols (such as the Transaction
Capabilities Application Part) and used to undertake performance evaluation of other services
provided by the SS? network. |
