| Abstract | Network efficiency, traffic load characteristics and Grade of Service (GOS) of a circuits witched network is highly dependent on the routing scheme implemented. This thesis presents
an analysis of Reconfigurable Routing (RR) scheme which is an advanced real time routing
scheme for circuit-switched network and has the capability to reroute established calls to
accommodate more simultaneous calls. A mathematical model is developed to evaluate the
performance of ideal RR (IRR) to obtain an upper bound on the improvement in GOS achievable
with RR schemes. The effect of network parameters on GOS by RR schemes is also investigated.
Implementable RR schemes based on different RR algorithms and strategies are simulated.
Comparisons with the existing routing schemes exhibit that RR schemes can give a significant
improvement in GOS. A new algorithm for implementable RR has been obtained which can
achieve better performance in GOS and link efficiency without excessive number of
reconfigurations even with the simple strategies of call reconfiguration. This improvement can be
utilized in network with better GOS, or with more subscribers, or with reduced hardware. An
analysis on implementation issues such as discontinuity and signaling load is also performed. |
