| Abstract | Application of hollow fiber microfiltration for solid-liquid separation in sequencing batch reactor CSBR) process
was investigated as feasibility study for high strength
organic wastewater, i.e. tanner y industrial wastewater from
Samut prakarn, Bangkok.
Different aeration periods, SRTs and loading
were studied for removal of organic matters and toxic
chromium.
rates
metal
Critical volumetric organic loading rates of 3 - 5 kg
COD/m3 . d from out of three different loading rates and
optimum SRTs of 20 days were determined in this experiment.
Higher COD removal C 93. 7 to 96. 3% at critical loading rate),
and higher Cr removal C 95. 4 to 97. 7% for the whole
experiment> were observed at F/M ratios of 0. 23 to 0. 463
but partial nitrification and denitrification were
observed for this tannery wastewater treatment.
A daily addition of 20-30 mg/l of Cr in tannery
wastewater for 60 days with a gross accumulation of 200- 900
mg/l of Cr at different reactors C 1. 65 to 5 . 32% of MLVSS in
dry weight basis ) gave no significant toxic effect of Cr
on COD removal while it was significant in nitrification and
denitrification. The effluent Cr concentration was not
greater than 1 . 1 mg/l throughout the experiment .
The hollow fiber membrane C 0. 1 µm pore size operated
at a stable flux of 0. 057 2 m3 /m2 • d in suction pressure
difference ranged from 0 -76 cm Hg for 90 days operation
without inner module clogging. The maximum MLSS loading for
membrane separation at steady state condition was about
30, 000 - 35 , 000 mg/1 for this experiment. |
