| Abstract | Small-Scale Industrial village was established in 1981 and
the first group occupied the premises in 1983. The Small-Scale
Industrial village is a name of a place where Small entrepreneurs
live and work at the same place. The Small-Scale industrial
Village lies in desa Penggilingan, Jakarta Timur (East
Jakarta). This project is similar to Mini-Industrial Estate, both
Small-Scale Industrial Village and Mini-Industrial Estate are to
serve small- scale industrial enterprises through providing common
service facilities, training and guidance. The difference is that
Small-Scale Industrial Village provides settlement for the owner
and the workers.
This study focuses on the impact of Small-Scale Industrial
Village on the new settlers and their ente rprises especially
the economic impact and the impact on habitat.
The findings show that the entrepreneurs who came from
unplanned area with their unregistered enterprises, after
settling down at the new environment they could expand their
enterprises and could absorb many labourers. The new environment
has resulted in the improvement in their standard of living and
job creation. The findings also show that the entrepreneurs could
increase their saving, their investment and they could also buy
land and house out side the Small-Scale Industrial Village.
The results of the analysis indicate that the needs of the
entrepreneurs to have better place for living and working has
been met with the establishment of the Small-Scale Industrial
Village. In view of the success of this project, it may be
extended to other places in the country as an effective
instrument of small-scale industrial development. |
