| Abstract | This study presents and discusses the results of an experimental
investigation of anchor bolts embedded in an unreinforced concrete block,
monotonically loaded in shear. All anchor bolts were embedded sufficiently
so that concrete wedge cone failure would occur in most cases. Test
programs were mainly conducted on single bolt, double bolt and 4-bolt
anchorage in group with varied edge distances and bolt spacings. Double
bolt anchorages were loaded in shear in perpendicular and parallel
direction to bolt line. Single bolt anchorage tests were conducted to
compare the results with the double and group of 4-bolt anchorage test
results.
The effect of bolt spacing of double bolt anchorage has been
investigated. It was found that the shear strength of double bolt anchorage
increases with the bolt spacing. The minimum spacings to produce twice the
shear strength of single bolt anchorage are around 8de and 2de for the
cases of bolt line perpendicular and parallel to the loading direction
respectively (see Figs.11 and 12}. The influence of the holding condition
of the concrete block, loading plate size and torque for tightening bolt
have been found to affect the shear strength of bolt anchorage (see Figs.
9, 10, 11 respectively}
The empirical formula to predict the ultimate shear strength of bolt
anchorage group is proposed based on the test results of single and double
bolt anchorages under the particular conditions and controlled parameters
(see the calculation examples in Appendix B). |
